“Scarecrow City” wants you!
With your help, Hallowell will once again be transformed into ‘Scarecrow City’ for the Fall season. Scarecrows will be found in store windows and doorways, on benches, lamp posts, inside and outside public places all over downtown.
We’d like to see scarecrows everywhere!
Open to everyone—businesses, organizations, families, classes, residents, even visitors are all encouraged and welcome to participate.
HOW TO REGISTER:
Please fill in the registration form below and you’ll be all set! Afterward you will be assigned an ID number by us and a tag that will be displayed in a visible location on the scarecrow itself so folks can find you on the voting board! There is no fee to enter the contest. To be assigned a scarecrow location and to be eligible for prizes, all entries must be registered by no later than Tuesday September 30th.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
Fashion your “scarecrow” using your own imagination and recycled scraps, stuff, and odds & ends. Let your creativity shine! You need not use a traditional scarecrow form. Your creation may be standing, sitting or securely propped or attached to your assigned location. Set up your scarecrow anytime starting on Monday Sep. 22nd but before Wednesday Oct. 7th. Each scarecrow's vision and design will be solely the representation and reflection of the: individual, group, or business, who has created it. Any work that does not comply with the City's Welcoming Resolution will be subject to removal. Please remember this is supposed to be fun for all, please leave out politics or anything that might be considered offensive. All ownership and accountability/liability will lie with the individual or business associated with and responsible for each particular scarecrow figure and its installation. A few last notes will be provided when you’ve registered!
CATEGORIES:
People’s Choice (open to all) and “I Made It Myself” (for age 13 and under). From September 22nd till the end of day October 19th, ballots may be cast (as many and as often as you like!) during business hours at The Rusticators Emporium for your favorite(s) in both categories. Don’t forget to bring dimes in order to vote—all proceeds support the Fall Festival! (10¢=1 vote)
JUDGING:
The winners will be determined by the number of votes cast (corresponding to dimes donated) at The Rusticators Emporium. Whether it is selected as a winner or not, your scarecrow may be featured in any and all Fall Festival promotional material. Winners will be announced Monday Oct. 20th. All contest participants are responsible for taking down their own scarecrows, and may do so anytime after voting ends with the last day for removal being Monday, November 3rd.
PRIZES:
People’s Choice compete for a coveted scarecrow trophy and endless bragging rights, “I Made It Myself” compete for one of 3 gift certificates at our shop so our young artists can load up on sweet treats, cool knick knacks and more!
